Without a measure of stress (often termed eustress) in our daily lives we would not be alert and able to react to our environment. So the stress response is vital for our survival. However, when we are exposed to stress that we are unable to manage is applied constantly or repeatedly, or extreme stress for a short period our body reacts in a manner that is harmful to us. During times of stress the body moves into 'short term' survival mode so that the maximum resources can be devoted to improving the survival chances.

It is better to head off stress before it is noticed, not necessarily an easy thing to do as it is difficult to detect and some people find some situations very stressful whilst others do not.

Hypnotherapy offers an effective way of reducing stress, the very nature odf the hypnotic trance induces relaxation and the application of self-hypnosis by individuals will help to head off major problems
